Nicki Minaj MISSES the start of American Idol as she arrives 13 minutes late for first live show

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Good excuse: The rapper was caught up in the notorious Los Angeles traffic on her way to the studio

It was better late than never for Nicki Minaj who missed the start of Wednesday's American Idol live show.
Minaj blamed infamously bad Los Angeles traffic for her delayed arrival and empty seat at the judging table as the Top Ten contestants battled it out.
'We are coming to you live and on time,' said a bemused host Ryan Seacrest to start the show.
'Say hello to three of your four judges who have made it here on time.'

How did she Minaj it: Ryan Seacrest explained Nicki was late on American Idol on Wednesday

Seacrest then sat down in Nicki's seat to explain her absence from the live show.
'So this is where Nicki…I hear she is seven minutes out and there is some congestion on the 405 [Freeway], she should be here momentarily.'
A laughing co-host Randy Jackson smirked 'I heard it was the 101 [Freeway].'

Balanced opinion: Even though the seat was empty some would say the evaluators were better as a result

'Well the show must go on so lets get the party started,' said Seacrest as they pressed on without Minaj.
Fellow judge Mariah Carey appeared irritated and shook her head in disbelief as Seacrest introduced the contestants.
'Which one of you gave Nicki the wrong directions today? Which one of you drained the fuel from her car?' added Ryan.
A smiling Keith Urban, shook his head and simply said 'I don't know.'

About time too: No doubt the producers breathed a sigh of relief when Nicki finally emerged

Minaj showed up 13 minutes into the show with a black hooded top over her head and giant sunglasses covering most of her face.
She missed opening contestant Curtis Finch Jr. and no further mention of her absence was made by Seacrest.
In the first Top Ten elimination round each one of the contestants had to sing a tune made famous by a previous Idol winner and Curtis, 25, from St. Louis took on 'I Believe' by Fantasia.
'Excellent. You always pick the right songs and you know who you are. You have so much personality and you look great tonight,' said Keith.
