Tears, triumph and a spectacular tumble! Anne Hathaway, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lawrence win big at Oscars (part 2)

By AMELIA PROUD

They were favourites to win, but victory was still ever so sweet for Daniel Day-Lewis, Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway and Adele at the 85th Academy Awards on Sunday night.

But nobody could have predicted one rather spectacular fall from grace by Jennifer Lawrence.
The Silver Linings Playbook star, 23, took a rather embarrassing tumble as she made her way up onto the stage to collect the gong for best actress.
When she finally made it to the podium after the slip up, she handled the situation with aplomb.

She dreamed a dream: Anne Hathaway was inspired to become an actress by watching her mother play Fantine in a production of Les Miserables 24 years ago; now she's got the Oscar for the same role

'Thank you so much,' she told the crowd, who gave her a standing ovation. 'This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.'
The rest of the night was full of tears and triumph as Tisletown celebrated its biggest night of the year.
Anne Hathaway summed up the magic of the night for those that won when she accepted the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as the doomed Fantine in Les Miserables by exclaiming: 'It came true!' as she clasped the gold statuette.
Because she really did dream a dream... and it really did come true.

We did it guys! Daniel Day-Lewis holds his Oscar for Best Actor, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway hold their Oscars for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively and Austrian actor Christophe Waltz holds his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor

Hathaway, who looked incredible in Prada, wanted to star in Les Misérables aged six, and it set her on the path to becoming an actress... so it was a doubly poignant moment.
She made a point of thanking her co-star Hugh Jackman, and her husband Adam Shulman. 'It was the best moment of my life when you walked into it,' she told the man she married in California's Big Sur last year.
The Oscar win is the apogee of a winning streak for the 30-year-old actress, who has won a plethora of honors for her short performance in the musical.

Don't trip! Daniel keeps a close eye on Jennifer as she leaves the stage in the press room, preventing a repeat of her earlier mishap

It's all mine! Adele can't hide her delight as she poses with fellow songwriter Paul Epworth and Richard Gere, who presented their award
