We were robbed! The cast of Modern Family pictured in tears after being beaten to best comedy Golden Globe by Girls

It should've been us! The cast of Modern Family pretended to cry after losing the Series, Comedy or Musical Award to HBO's Girls

Modern Family is one of the most critically acclaimed shows on the air, and most people expected the ABC big hitter to scoop the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical.
But on Sunday night there was a serious upset; the beloved family saga was beaten by the controversial new HBO comedy Girls, and nobody saw it coming.
The Family gang had been through this before, they were nominated but lost in 2010 and 2011 but finally took the laurels last year.

But their success was not to be repeated, and after the news was announced the whole cast mugged it up and pulled sad faces.
Cast member Sophia Vergara, who plays Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, posted a picture of the stars online in which the pretended to cry.
She wrote: 'We loose (sic) this time.'
Though the real disappointment was palpable.
Nobody expected them to lose, and not least to Girls.

Lena Dunham's tale of twenty-somethings in Brooklyn has earned a tremendously unfair backlash, thanks (though no critic is honest about this) to the underlying misogyny which still exists in society.
But it hasn't made a dent in its success and as the second season premiered last night; Dunham - who is just 26 and writes the show - accepted an award for best comic actress and the big one for the show clad in a chocolate ballgown that showed off her tattoos.
However, Vergara was delighted to be at the event and has previously dreamed of going to such a glamorous awards ceremony.

She recently told People magazine: 'The award is just going to the awards show.
'I never expected in my life that I was going to be part of a show like Modern Family and be nominated for anything. I'm very new to acting, so for me, it's a party.'
The Modern Family stars were joined by a host of other celebrities including Homeland actress Claire Danes, who won the award for best actress in a drama series and her co-star Damian Lewis who won the Golden Globe for best actor in a television drama.
