Take four! Modern Family sweeps the Emmy Awards, taking the prize for Best Comedy along with acting gongs for Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen


Comedy triumph: The Modern Family cast took the stage to win the Outstanding Comedy award for the third year in a row

It has dominated the comedy award winners at the Emmys in recent years.
And Sunday night's prestigious awards ceremony was no different, with the ABC comedy scooping an impressive four gongs.
The show won the Outstanding Comedy Series gong for the third year in a row, along with awards for acting and directing.

The show also won a Creative Emmy last week, taking its grand total to five.
'We feel so lucky, lucky not only to have jobs in these challenging times, but to have jobs that we love with people we love,' said the show's co-creator Steven Levitan, as he took to the stage to accept the award from Michael J.Fox.
The night began well for the series with actor Eric Stonestreet scooping the award for Outstanding Supporting Comedy Actor for his role of Cam Tucker.
His win meant his co-stars Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were all left empty handed, after also being nominated in the category.

Accepting his gong from Amy Poehler and Louis CK; Stonestreet thanked the cast, making special mention to on-screen partner Ferguson.
'I wouldn't be standing here without Jesse Tyler Ferguson,' he said on the podium. 'There is no Cam without Mitch.'
Julie Bowen also triumphed for the comedy series, winning in the Best Supporting Actress category, beating co-star Sofia Vergara.

The show also won the Outstanding Comedy Director award for Steve Levitan.
Meanwhile, newcomer Louis CK beat out friend Amy Poehler for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy series - one of two Emmys he won at LA's Nokia Theatre which provided a few surprises, including a win for Jon Cryer for Two and a Half Men.
'Don't panic, people. Something has clearly gone terribly wrong. I'm stunned,' the speechless star told the audience after winning the award for Outstanding Lead Comedy Actor. 'It's been an incredible journey on this show.'
