'Please, please tell us you're OK': Anguished parents of teacher, 30, who ran away with Megan, 15, plead with them to make contact

The mother of runaway teacher Jeremy Forrest broke down yesterday as her husband begged their son to return home with missing schoolgirl Megan Stammers.
Computer analyst Jim Forrest pleaded with the married 30-year-old to ‘please, please get in contact’ during an emotional press conference.
The appeal came as police revealed they only obtained a European Arrest Warrant for the maths teacher five days after he boarded a ferry to France with his 15-year-old pupil.

Tearful plea: Jeremy Forrest's parents Julie and Jim begged their son to return home at a press conference yesterday

French officers would have been powerless to arrest Forrest until then – because he has not broken any of their laws.
Detectives also revealed they are following up a number of reported sightings in Europe, including one in Paris where Megan has previously been pictured in front of the Eiffel Tower.
A British tourist believed she saw the couple in the city on Sunday and reported it to police.
But officers from Sussex admitted there were no ‘confirmed’ sightings since they were pictured arm-in-arm on the Dover to Calais ferry last Thursday evening.

Tears: Mr Forrest and his wife Julie - parents of Jeremy Forrest - cried as he said 'please, please get in contact'

Spanish police also confirmed they had been asked for help in the search for the missing schoolgirl.
Descriptions of the pair and Forrest’s Ford Fiesta have been circulated across Europe.
Yesterday the teacher’s distraught parents held hands as they faced the media. With his 57-year-old wife Julie sobbing beside him, Mr Forrest looked directly at TV cameras as he said: ‘Hi Megan, hi Jeremy, I hope this message reaches you and you are both okay.

Search continues: As these new pictures of Megan were released Jeremy Forrest's father Jim prepared to give an emotional appeal for his son to come home

'There are a lot of people back home that are desperate to hear from you. All I am asking is for one of you to make a call, send an email, so we know you are both safe.
‘We are all here for you both. Please, please get in contact.’
Megan’s friends have told the Mail they first alerted teachers at Bishop Bell C of E School in Eastbourne, East Sussex, about Forrest’s relationship with her seven months after they were seen holding hands on a flight home from a school trip to America.
Staff are believed to have alerted police to their concerns and officers are thought to have taken one of Megan’s mobile phones away last week to search for evidence.

Hunt: Teacher Jeremy Forrest and Megan Stammers were last seen on CCTV getting on a ferry to France a week ago and have vanished without a trace

Forrest was told the day before the pair fled that he was due to be suspended. But it was not until the following Tuesday afternoon that police obtained the European Arrest Warrant.
Chief Inspector Jason Tingley said they had not applied for it earlier because they hoped the pair – who had return ferry tickets for Sunday evening – would come home voluntarily.
They also say there may not have been enough evidence for a warrant on Friday, when Megan’s disappearance was first reported.
Mr Tingley said: ‘On Monday morning the process was instigated to apply for that warrant and the letter of co-operation with regards the French authorities, and that wasn’t done as quickly as we might have liked but it was obtained and in our possession on Tuesday.’
