'Hunky dunky guys and gorgeous girls': Strictly Come Dancing gets off to a glittering start as the stars take to the dancefloor

By LOUISE SAUNDERS

The moment of truth: The Strictly Come Dancing celebrities eagerly waited to find out who their professional partners would be

They've dusted off their dancing shoes, dug out their sequins and applied their fake tans.
So the only thing left to do was hit the dancefloor for tonight's (Saturday) Strictly Come Dancing launch show.
With the likes of Louis Smith and Victoria Pendleton swapping their Team GB sports gear for spangles, the celebrities found out who would be their professional dancing partners throughout their time on the BBC One series.

Going for gold: Despite being an Olympic champion, Victoria Pendleton - partnered alongside Brendan Cole - admitted to feeling like a 'big ball of uselessness'

And the judges seemed thrilled with this year's star-studded line-up, featuring Kimberley Walsh, Jerry Hall, Michael Vaughan, Nicky Byrne and Denise van Outen.
Len Goodman said: 'This is the first time I knew every single one of the celebrities. We've got some hunky dunky guys and gorgeous girls.'

What a reaction! TV presenter Richard Arnold seemed particularly pleased with his professional partner, Erin Boag

Bruno Tonioli added: 'It's going to be a scorcher. I can't wait to see Denise, Kimberley and Victoria performing the raunchy rumba and the saucy salsa.'
But the judging panel wasn't without its fair share of bitchiness in the form of acid-tongued Craig Revel Horwood, who quipped that Lisa Riley's partner Robin Windsor could be in for a tough competition.

Taking to the dancefloor: Len Goodman admitted this is the first year he has known all of the celebrities taking part in Strictly Come Dancing

He said: 'Lisa and Robin? Good luck.'
However, host Sir Bruce Forsyth - who presents the show alongside Tess Daly - made sure to get his own back on the panellist.
Making reference to former ballet dancer Darcey Bussell joining the judging line-up, he joked: 'You may have noticed a new face on the panel...yes, Craig had some work done over the summer.

Partners: Former Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley was paired alongside Robin Windsor

Catty: But acid-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood criticised the duo, suggesting they would need 'luck' if they were to progress in the competition

Tonight's show saw the 14 celebrities take to the dancefloor for a group performance alongside their partners.
And it would seem Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton was struggling with not being number one.
She said: 'I feel like a big dough ball of uselessness.'
Meanwhile, silver medal winning-gymnast Louis Smith showed his competitive side.

Back where they belong: Once again, Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly will host the prime time show

Sizzling: New judge Darcey Bussell showed off her talents on the dancefloor

He explained: 'It's all fun and games but at the end of the day it's a competition. I'm here to win and I'm sure Victoria is, too.
'I've got three Olympic medals and the next competition is Strictly. I want a gold!'
In addition to the group dance, new Strictly judge Darcey Bussell took to the dancefloor, while Mika performed his new single.

New girl: Darcey Bussell replaced former judge Alesha Dixon on the judging panel of the BBC One show
